"When I began training at Austin Fitness Martial Arts, I was completely out of shape, had not worked out or even really exercised in four years. I was a very heavy drinker, smoker, and weighed 285 lbs. and I barely made it through the basic 30 minutes Kung Fu workout without passing out. However, I loved the traditional feeling of the school and Sifu Hughes' instruction. I decided to stick with it and realized how much I identify with the spiritual and physical dimensions of the martial arts. One year and nine months later after diligent training I received my Honorary Black Belt. Now I weigh 260 lbs and I can make it through hours of consecutive training/ sparring classes and I'm in the best shape of my life. Kung Fu has given me the motivation and the will to become a healthier, more productive person in every aspect of my life. Training like this will reduce your stress by learning how to stay calm in the face of adversity. It makes you feel like you can deal with any problem you confront. Not only do you learn how to defend yourself and become a fighter (if you so choose) you will learn how to become a better person."
